Hardcover. Etat : Fair. Folio; 44 cm. Publisher's green printed hardback folder. Lacking piece of spine cloth. Three individual parts with numerous prints. Also includes perhaps another part with additional prints, but they are not in a folder. Two color plates. Sold with all faults. Most plates are accompanied by guard sheet with descriptive letterpress. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Slight wear to cloth spine of outer cover (fraying, chiefly to head and foot); some wear to inner covers (wrappers; some detached but all present, with few small nicks and slight rubbing); slight internal browning to edges. 68 pages + plates. Later issue of the trade edition; partial set of the large-format reproductions of works by representative American artists: includes (1) 'Engraving from Nature' by Elbridge Kingsley; (2) 'Napoleon at Waterloo' by R. F. Zogbaum; (3) 'Lilith' by Kenyon Cox; (4) 'Narcissus' by Will H. Low; (5) 'The Music for the Dance' by A. B. Frost; (6) 'That Delicious Moment' by Charles Dana Gibson; (7) 'A Wounded Enemy' by Howard Pyle; (8) 'At Noon-Time' by W. T. Smedley. Plates all have original imprinted tissue guards (generally partly nicked and browned at edges), all laid loose in 'Part 5' (at rear). Text in 5 parts (complete); all laid loose as issued in publisher's cloth/boards large portfolio. Part 2 dated 1892 on upper exterior wrapper; remaining parts dated 1893. Originally published in 1892 (in both a limited and trade edition; see BAL #18213). Dark green cloth over gray boards, upper cover printed and decorated in light blue and brown, plain endpapers. Each plate accompanied by leaf with descriptive letterpress. Missing the following: a color plate, Two Sisters by Edwin A. Abbey; a photogravure, The Music for the Dance by A.B. Frost and an etching, A Song by F.S. Church. Good (missing 3 of the 15 plates, shelfwear to portfolio, age toning overall, chipping along page edges, foxing spots).
