Housed in two black slipcases. Includes the original advertisement and newsletter. Sound bindings with intact hinges. Slight foxing to edges of the text blocks on two volumes. Almost no wear to the covers; the gold decorations are bright, fresh, and unrubbed which is quite the exception for this set. The slip cases have some minor wear at their corners. Burton's definitive translation of 65 of the 1001 stories told by Scheherazade the Sultaness to divert Shahryar the Sultan from the executing her as he had previously done to hundreds of his other wives. Coupled with the marvelous illustrations of Arthur Szyk.

Each of these volumes has a slimmer, but matching volume of Notes. Each volume 7 ½ in. x 10 ½ in. 674 pp. in the two "Entertainment" volumes; 262 total pp. of notes. Illustrated with miniature paintings by Arthur Szyk (this set shows only 29 illustrations in volume one, rather than the 30 on the printed list, volume two shows 29 illustrations, which agrees with the printed list, and a few in both volumes are bound in out of order.) All volumes in black cloth with gilt badges containing black titling. Each Entertainment volume and its Notes is housed in a black paper-covered slipcase. All the books, both slipcases, are fine except for a little wear to the gilt on Vol. I. Weight is 10 lbs. Postage may be extra on this item.

Handsome bookplates of Seymour Hecht to the inside front pastedowns, else all four volumes are in handsome near fine condition. Slight wear to slipcases. Tissue dustwrapper still intact on the Supplement to Volume One, else no other tissue wrappers remain on this set. One of 1500 sets printed by the Limited Editions Club in 1954. Slipcases are worn and chipped along edges, but books themselves are in good condition. Covers have a few small smudges, not affecting legibility of text. Corners of cover boards are lightly bumped. Top edges of spines are bumped, but binding is tight. Small scuffs on top edge of text block, not visible on edges of pages. Pages are slightly yellowed, but all text and illustrations are clear and bright.
