Octavo; hardcover, with spine and upper board titles; 286pp., with an engraved portrait frontispiece, 42 plates likewise, and many other engraved decorations. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. The most conspicuous of the Baconians. Durning-Lawrence believed that Bacon left clues as to his true identity in cyphers hidden within the plays (for example, the word 'honorificabilitudinitatibus', used in the play Love's Labour's Lost, is an anagram for hi ludi, F. Baconis nati, tuiti orbi, Latin for "these plays, F. Bacon's offspring, are preserved for the world". As for William Shakespeare of Stratford: "England is now declining any longer to dishonour and defame the greatest Genius of all time by continuing to identify him with the mean, drunken, ignorant, and absolutely unlettered, rustic of Stratford who never in his life wrote so much as his own name and in all probability was totally unable to read one single line of print.".

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Red Hardcover with gold gilt titles on front and spine. Spine fairly sunned, and edges of red covers faded. A small black mark on front cover (presumably a drop of ink) and some small bubbles under the cloth of back cover. Binding a little creaky sounding but holding together very well. Interior clean, no markings except prev. owner's name on ffep. Many black and white plates, illustrations and photographs throughout. A beautiful old book providing an argument that Francis Bacon wrote under the name Shakespeare. In excellent shape for its age.
