"Pliny pointed out centuries ago that nature had evidently intended to make it difficult to locate precious metals, for they were usually found in nearly inaccessible spots. Potosi, the greatest single silver center in the Spanish Empire, admirably illustrated this supposition. El Cerro, or the Mountain, which contains the mines, was found by the Spaniards in the heart of South America at an altitude of almost 16,000 feet, higher than Mont Blanc, the tallest peak in the Alps." ------------ from the Introduction. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Ex-Library.
