DELAFIELD" and pencilled in "ANNE DELAFIELD FINCH" "B. WASHINGTON CALLED AT GRANDFATHER'S HOUSE". Maturin Livingstone Delafield, 1836-1917, was proprietor in the investment co. Delafield & Delafield. Booker T Washington was always fundraising for the Tuskegee Institute which he founded. The interior of the book is in very good condition, tight and clean, other than the above inscription no markings, no tears, paper is lightly toning from age. No text line under Washington's name on title page, which means first printing. The red covers with gold title are a little scuffed, spine somewhat darkened. Top edge gilt, fore edge and bottom uncut, The 2nd volume is "BOOKER T. WASHINGTON" from the series Little Journeys to the Homes of Great Teachers by Elbert Hubbard, printed by the Roycrafters, Aurora, Erie County, NY, 1908. Arts & Crafts softcover, vol. 23, July MCMVIII, No. 1, 6" x 8" brown/gray wrap, 28 printed pages plus advertising. Beautiful large Arts & Crafts grapevine vignette initialed CH, text printed in black and red. Uncut paper. African-American item with interesting provenance. rare.
