Two works in one volume, 8vo, pp. [ii], vi, 228, [4]; 81, [3]; a fine copy in contemporary calf, spine gilt (lightly rubbed). Two early editions of Pope in French. The volume is prefaced by a half title describing these as 'Les Oeuvres de M. Pope', and listing the two 'ouvrages contenus dans ce volume': clearly the two books were issued together, but it seems probable that at first they were issued separately. The translation of the Rape of the Lock is undated, but carries the original privilege of 1728 - in fact this may be a later printing. Meanwhile, du Resnel's prose translation of the Essay on Man and the Essay on Criticism had been published the previous year: the translation includes a long preliminary discussion of the two works.

(in Cohen). (in Encyclopaedia Universalis).
