First edition, thus, with revisions and added material by Brooks for the Scribner's Classmate Series, based on his life experiences growing up in Castine, ME, and provided vivid background for his group of nine "Fairport" youths, including Sam Black, the only African-American boy in Fairport, "The best of all the boys in town." He has included accounts of baseball games, fishing voyages, and adventures in the woods. Scarce in original dustjacket.
