Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Reprint. First published in 1937, this is a fourteenth impression (Cheap Edition) of 1950. Some edge wear and chipping to top and bottom of slightly faded, spotted and browned classic Gollancz yellow jacket and spine, corners rubbed with small loss, some yellowing to page block, not clipped (5/- Cheap Edition), previous owner's bookplate to ffep, internally clean tight and square, overall quite a reasonable copy for its age. 295pp. They plan to have a quiet country honeymoon at Talboys in Hertfordshire. Then Lord Peter Wimsey and his bride Harriet Vane find the previous owner's body in the cellar. Set in a country village seething with secrets and snobbery, this is Dorothy L. Sayers' last full length detective novel. Variously described as a love story with detective interruptions and a detective story with romantic interruptions, it lives up to both descriptions with style. Classic Dorothy L. Sayers.
