Edition originale
Etat : very good. Antverpiae, apud Pterum Bellerum, 1656. Contemporary full vellum with raised bands and central ornamental blindstamp and rules. Many decorated initials, head and tailpieces; Allegorical engraving with small portraits of archduke and -duchess Albert and Isabella on title-page printed in black and red; (12, a.o. half-title, title, privileges, printer's advice), 1-28, (14), 29-332, (20, indices), 1-216 pp. Folio 33x22 cm. Texts in LAtin, French and Dutch. Binding slighlty soiled as usual, bookplate on flyleaf, two small tickets to spine, light browning throughout. Nice copy. - Anselmo (1589-1668) was born in Hamburg (Germany) where his parents had fled from Antwerp (belgium), but he died in Antwerp again. He studied Roman and canon law in Leuven and was for a long time magistrate and lawyer before he devoted more time to publishing as a legal scholar. He was the first to systemize the corpus of princely legalisation which had become more and more influential in his days compared to customary law, and also commented to it, as in this work where he elaborates on the Eternal Edict of 1611 by archduke Albert, at the time the summum of this princely charter. The separately paginated part (1-216) contains the texts of various legal sources to which the preceding commentary refers, whereby mention is made of the relevant page and column of the commentary; it is titled: "Articulen ghetrocken uit de landt-charteren, blyde incompsten, mitsgaders uyt de placcaten, edicten, instructien, ende ordonnancien van sijne Majesteyt, oock uyt de tractaten, accorden, resolutien, concordaten, synoden, statuten, costumen, ende andere publycke ende wettighe acten, ende passeringhen. Daer van in dese commentaria remissive mentie wordt ghemaeckt, ende tot de welcke, een ieder sijn recours sal moghen nemen. Possibly first edition (according to Nat. biogr. woordenboek), though Dekkers, Bibliotheca Belgica (p. 4) lists a 1652 edition, that is however not found in library catalogs. Anselmo also published a collection of (mainly) princely legislation of the Southern Low Countries in 1648. Condition : very good copy. Keywords : RECHT,
