Facsimile signatures of Routledge and Sons/ Edmund Evans to the limitation page (despite appearances, these are not actual signatures). Original boards heavily marked and worn. Spine with gilt title, similarly worn and marked, with creasing and nicks to head and foot. Inner front hinge weak and splitting behind the pastedown / endpaper; rear hinge beginning to split (not surprising considering the sheer size and weight of the book). Rough cut page edges heavily spotted. Endpapers spotted and marked. Printer/Publisher blind-stamp to ffep for Palmer & Howe, Princess Street Manchester. Contents generally bright with only light scattered spotting, in the most part. A mixture of colour and black & white illustrations with the coloured plates being lovely and bright. The gentle images, often combined with the humorous, text provides an interesting insight into gentile Victorian life. Overall, bright contents in a worn binding. 340pp. Dimensions: 39cm by 33cm approx. Weight before packing approximately 4Kg. Postage outside the U. Illustrated by Randolph Caldecott, a British artist and illustrator born in Chester. The Caldecott Medal was named in his honour as his abilities as an artist were promptly and generously recognised by the Royal Academy. In the original brown cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and the odd small mark to the board. A split to the front board edge has resulted in light fraying of the cloth there. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Very Good. book.
