Hardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. 'On days when I saw no students I was hurled about in my sleep by hurricanes, downpours and tornadoes. Zero produces one and one is snow, hail, wormwood, and all are nothing. And all was my fault though nothing was, because nothing is. I was determined to arrange the most congenial meetings with people. Prepared to be meek when I was overbearing. After this humiliation I invented an adage: 'He who says he is your equal is making ready to be your despot,' The next occasion I resolved to be a wag, but I encountered such a dullard that in less than an hour with him I proved to be a greater dunce than he.'.

Edward Dahlberg (1900 - 1977) was an American novelist, essayist and autobiographer. After losing an eye during World War I, Dahlberg joined American expats in Paris during the 20's when he knew everyone of importance: Joyce, Beckett, O'Casey, Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot, Pound, Yeats, D.H. Lawrence and others. After relocating to New York's Greenich Village, Dahlberg became a member of the Stieglitz Group and emersed himself in literary classics. Do These Bones Live (1941) a series of essays grew out of such varied experiences. He moved to the Danish island of Bornholm in 1955 while working on The Flea of Sodom. The Sorrows of Priapus was published in 1957, becoming his most successful book thus far. The author later moved to Mallorca, while working on Because I Was Flesh (1964), an autobiography. During the 1960s and 1970s, he further refined his unique style through the publication of poetry, autobiographical works like his CONFESSIONS (1971), fiction and criticism.
