The attractive plates are of native peoples, vegetation, sailing scenes, and many views, including of Bermuda, Basse Terre, St. Kitt's, Nevis, St. Pierre, Martinique, Trinidad, Curacoa, Jamaica, Havana, Cuba, St. Augustine, Florida, etc. Welch p. 97. This copy has a loose 'Finis', a four-page addenda describing events after the book was published and inserted into some copies, dated December 17th, 1884, by the author. (tr) ~ An anecdotal account of the cruise in 1884 of the schooner yacht "Montauk" New York Yacht Club owned by Commodore S.R. Platt. The frontis is an engraving of the Montauk "At Home" in Hamilton Harbor. The author, New York lawyer, James McQuade (1829-85) was a Union Civil War general and a participant in the cruise. The enclosed "Finis" is a tribute to Commodore Platt who had died around the time of the appearance of the book.

Decorative Cloth. Etat : Very Good +. A very solid copy of the 1885 1st edition of James McQuade's account of the voyage of the schooner yacht Montauk to Bermuda, the West Indies and Florida. Tight and VG+ in its pictorial, chocolate-brown cloth, with bright gilt-titling along the front panel and lightly-rubbed titling to the spine. One very narrow, subtle cut near the spine crown, very light wear to both spine ends. Small, neat former owner names at the first blank endpapers, a touch of foxing at one of the preliminaries, otherwise clean as could be. Thick octavo, all edges gilt. A number of full-page engravings thruout. James McQuade's single-sheet, 4 pg. "Finis" laid-in as well.
