Previous owner gift inscription front endpaper. Text is clean and bright, no marks, lightly and evenly tanned. "A novel that most women and men will like, once they get over a feeling of irritation at the insistence of the author that the heroine is somethimg absolutely ethereal and unearthly. This is a story of a sewing girl, with instinctive genius as a designer, who came to be a college teacher's wife and widown, and later the wife of a great modiste. It is a simple story, simply told for the most part, culminating in the woman's sacrifice of her life in bearing a child out of gratitude to a husband whom she did not really love but who was kind to her." (from th 1929 review in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle).
