This amazing and comprehensive record of the US farm tractor industry begins in the late 1800s when motorised aids to farming were in their infancy, up to to the sophisticated equipment of the 1990s. The impressive book was first published by Crestline in 1979 with this second edition from Motorbooks International as part of its Crestline series. Apart from a brief historical preface the main body of the book, about 280 pages, is devoted to an alphatebetical listing of all known US tractor manufactures, including those with a single model. This section illustrated with dozens of photographs, up to five on some pages. At the back, sections cover early tractor design and development, chassis design, engines, transmissions. clutches, wheels, crawler styles, cooling systems, carburetion, ignition, lubrication, tractor powered machines and today's tractors. Theses are mainly pictorial and followed by a cross reference list, tractor attachments for Ford Model Ts, directory of manufacturers, bibliography and author's biog. This an ex-library copy. 352 pages, b/w photos throughout, Green hard covers with elaborate embossed and highlighted front decoration/spine titles, plastic protected and VG+, plastic sheet taped to pastedowns, dealer label lower left corner front pastedown, library markings confined to FFEP with stamp at top, label with library codes lower right overstamped "withdrawn", crossed barcode lower right corner, small fragment from issue sheet above label, right of centre. Apart from these marks etc the text block is in excellent order. Publisher's label lower right back cover. This book has been very little used. Heavy book, 1.6kgs unpacked -- could require additional post costs.
