Hardcover. 8vo. Black paper over boards with red spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 373pp. Illustrations. Fine/good only. Jacket quite edgeworn and rubbed, with edge chips and expert archival mends on verso. Tight and nice third printing of the story of Dutch WW2 resistance figure John Henry Weidner (1911-94). Unusual holograph addition: Blank leaf facing title page bears lengthy and relevant note boldly penned in blue ballpoint from a Chicago producer for NBC named Joseph P. Howard (born 1932): "Presented to me at NBC Burbank Studios, June 5, 1968, by John Weidner (and his wife), former employer of Sirhan B. Sirhan, assassin of Senator Robert F. Kennedy on June 5th, 12:20 AM, in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Weidner hired Sirhan to work in his L.A. area health food chain stores. Weidner and his wife appeared on an NBC News Special (TV) Report with Reporter John Dancey, aired live on Wednesday night at 8:30 OM EST. Senator Kennedy died the following morning at 1:44 AM. (Joe Howard) Producer Joe Angotti w/ T. Elbert & Joe Howard." Interesting that this copy was given to this television producer (perhaps a documentary about Weidner had been proposed) on the same day that Weidner's employee assassinated the Democratic presidential candidate -- strange enough that Howard would record the details.
