In all, over 6,000 were manufactured, providing more than 40 per cent of Britain's total heavy-bomber power. In the bombing operations alone, approximately 76,000 sorties were flown and nearly a quarter of a million tons of bombs were dropped onto enemy targets. Bomber Command had no fewer than seventy-six Halifax squadrons in action at the time of its peak strength.

The company history of British aircraft manufacturer Handley Page, from its origins in 1909 to its peerless work during and after the Second World War. Winston Churchill's contribution comes in the form of a tipped-in facsimile of his congratulatory telegram to Sir Frederick Handley Page on the occasion of the company's 40th Anniversary. This is a very good copy of a very rare volume that apparently does not appear in any of the standard Churchill bibliographies. Boards are worn and a bit faded, the contents are fine. (96 pages, with photo frontispiece, numerous photos and facsimile Churchill telegram tipped-in.).

A pictorial history of the first forty years of Handley Page, the first company to be established in the United Kingdom for the exclusive design and manufacture of aeroplanes. This loving tribute covers Handley Page's contributions to both civil and military aviation. The company was founded in 1909 by Frederick Handley Page at a time when there were very little aviation facilities available. It went on to produce essential aircraft used in the Third Afghan War and both World Wars, as well as aircraft for domestic use in the interwar period. Inserted loosely in the volume is a Marshall Airways ticket intended for use at Mascot Aerodrome. Marshall Airways operated from N.S.W. between the 1930s and 1960s.
