Livre
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good Minus. This book was originally published in 1939. From the dust jacket: 'The 1939 edition has been out of print and unavailable for many years. This re-issue, to which the present City Historian, Renoda Hoffman, has added an updating preface, will be welcomed by a new generation of White Plains residents and by anyone interested in the history of Westchester County.' You can see the covers in the photos they are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges are in excellent shape. So are the cover corners. The top page edge has only a small number of tiny tan spots. The middle and bottom pages look very good. The book is solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. There is a teeny tiny spot on the half-title page, and a tiny scratch on the title page. Scrolling through the pages, I'm not finding any soiling at all. The pages are also nicely bright. I'm also not finding any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There are nearly 100 photographs. The author, John Rosch, who you can see in the frontispiece, was a professional photographer. 'He captured scenes and houses during an era from which few visible mementos have been preserved. His numerous photos, taken during the 19th and early 20th century, are today priceless records of White Plains when it was still a village. Many of his pictures were used to illustrate this book.' All of the illustrations are in excellent condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first three photos. It has some wear, but is in pretty nice condition. There's a little toning at a few of the margins. The spine is toned. There is also some soiling on the spine. There are a couple of tiny losses at the spine ends. There are a couple of tiny edge tears. On the front cover there is a small area near the top of the photograph where it looks like there was a little penciling, but it doesn't respond to an eraser so I'm not sure what caused that. It's not very conspicuous. The flaps are in very nice condition, a little toning at their edges, no soiling, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover.
