Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. [From the library of noted scholar Richard A. Macksey.] Bound in publisher's cloth. Hardcover. No dust jacket. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Light spotting. Small stain to edge (does not affect text). "Richard A. Macksey was a celebrated Johns Hopkins University professor whose affiliation with the university spanned six and a half decades. A legendary figure not only in his own fields of critical theory, comparative literature, and film studies but across all the humanities, Macksey possessed enormous intellectual capacity and a deeply insightful human nature. He was a man who read and wrote in six languages, was instrumental in launching a new era in structuralist thought in America, maintained a personal library containing a staggering collection of books and manuscripts, inspired generations of students to follow him to the thorniest heights of the human intellect, and penned or edited dozens of volumes of scholarly works, fiction, poetry, and translation." - Johns Hopkins University.

Livre Edition originale
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. [Date from the copyright page.] First Printing. Preface, Detailed Contents, Footnotes, Index; x, 266 pages. The original gray cloth is very good with slight rubbing to the square corners tips and ends of the gently-bumped spine where the gilt lettering is still bright. The interior is a bit age-toned, but the pages remain supple; my philosopher-father, who taught the subject for many years, left pale penciling on about a dozen pages. Also, there is a spot of fountain-pen ink on the fore-edge, not intruding into the margins. [It is partly discernible in one of the five images of the actual book.] The fragile, printed dustjacket, having protected the book so well, has a sunned spine with several small chips and tears; it is unclipped, with no price. "This book has two complementary aims: it endeavors to explain, at an introductory level, the nature of the exact discipline known as Formal Logic, and also to reveal something of the intricate logical structure of ordinary unformalized discourse. The author believes that only by means of a clear view of the relations between the two can the nature of either be fully understood."---from the flap. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
