A few small, unobtrusive pinholes affecting the image. Overall spotting. Verso: blank. Dimensions: 218 x 202 mm. Matthias de Vries was Professor, Philologist, and Professor of Dutch history at the University of Leiden.

Framed prints, drawings, of various Dutch, Italian and French masters, among which is the masterpiece of HW Couwenberg, representing the copy of the painting by B. van der Helst: The banquet of the Civic Guard of the national museum in Amsterdam (this painting is opn page 31 of this catalogue and has significant marginalia associated with it). A rich collection of engraving and etching prints from various schools. Classic prints and books, wallet furniture, etc. Forming the estate of the late Mr. Jacques Moyet from Amsterdam. Whose public sale will take place in Amsterdam, at the domicile of Mr. C.F. Roos, Hôtel dit Huis met de Hoofden, . on Tuesday, April 12, 1859, . under the ministry of MM. the notaries Commelin and Amya Esser, by Cornelis François Roos, Gerrit de Vries, Jz. and Willem Jodocus Matthias Engelberts." Exceptionally scarce. VGm some wear to extrwemities of covers, one folded corner, several circular blue ink-stamps at lower page corners (appear to be tax stamps?) as well as some small amount of marginalia. A most intersting copy.

Third edition of a fine wall map of the Alblasserwaard and the "Vijfheerenlanden", the area south of Utrecht and south of the river Lek (a branch of the Rhine) between Vianen, Leerdam, Gorinchem, Dordrecht and Schoonhoven, including Asperen, Woudrichem and the castle Loevesteyn.Commissioned by the "Hoogheemraadschap" of the Alblasserwaard, the map was first published by the surveyor and bookseller Matthaeus van Nispen in 1681. Abel de Vries in Dordrcht published a second edition in 1716. The present third edition, updated by indicating the dike bursts of 1740 and 1741, was published by Abel's son Matthias de Vries (1681-1751), the official surveyor of the County of South-Holland and the Alblasserwaard, also in Dordrecht. A. Blussé in Dordrecht published the last edition in 1767.In fine condition.l Donkersloot-de Vrij 767.
