This handsome edition is accompanied by numerous woodcut illustrations that draw physical analogies between human faces and animal heads, among other intriguing images, this edition is based on the Venetian edition from 1644. It also includes an additional treatise on Metoposcopy by Ciro Spontone. The content is printed in a two-column format and features 36 woodcut illustrations. The work opens with an introduction on physiognomy and proceeds with chapters that analyze various parts of the body and their meanings. It further categorizes different human typessuch as the epileptic, effeminate, miserly, and those in love. Toward the end, Della Porta offers remedies for various unfavorable conditions and advises against consuming the meat of talkative animals like roosters, ducks, swallows, and frogs. This edition is complemented by several additional works: "The Natural Physiognomy" by Giovanni Ingegneri (pp. 335-381); "The Physiognomy of Polemone" (pp. 382-402); Della Porta's "Heavenly Physiognomy" (pp. 403-516), which is adorned with beautiful woodcut illustrations;"Discourse de nei" by Lodovico Settali (pp. 517-522); a discourse by Livio Agrippa on nature and human complexion (pp. 523-534); and finally, Spontoni's Metoposcopy, featuring woodcuts that illustrate the lines of the forehead (pp. 535-586).
