The covers are bumped & lightly rubbed with a white stain & some tiny white marks to the front cover. There are some tiny stains near the head of the spine & the head & tail are lightly chipped. lxxxvi & 298 pages plus 10-page publisher's catalog. There is an owner's name & address on the front endpaper & there is some light staining to the rear endpaper & the facing rear blank. Very good. First edition in English.The book includes Saint-Beuve's literary portraits of Louis the Fourteenth, Fenelon, Bossuet, Massillon, Pascal, Rousseau, Madame Geoffrin, Joubert, Guizot, the Abbe Galliani and Frederic the Great.
