Etat : Fair. 1939. Reprinted. 320 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth boards with lettering. Colour illustrated frontispiece. Slight crinkling to paper at gutter. Clean pages with noticeable tanning and foxing throughout. Tightly bound with faint thumb marking throughout. Pen and pencil markings to front free endpaper and pastedown. Moderate water staining to top edge textblock. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Lettering is darkened. Moderate tanning to spine and edges. Visible wear and water marks to boards.

There is a letter at the beginning of the book to Dear Dorling from Hodder and Stoughton dated December 1937, signed by Percy and Ralph Hodder-Williams, Directors and owners of Hodder and Stoughton. Bound in at the rear of the book is the original paperback cover. A story about an adventure at sea, in the Spanish Civil War. 320pp. Approximately 7 ¼ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles, 3 raised gilt bands, decorative gilt border to each compartment, sun faded. Joints good condition. Corners good condition. Boards good condition full polished calf leather bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, both boards have a gilt border. Page edges good condition top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges tanned and foxed. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound. Paste downs good condition plain with gilt dentelles, the book binders name is stamped in gilt along the bottom edge of the front paste down. End papers good condition plain, the front end paper is signed by the Author and dated Christmas 1937, some offsetting around the edges, subsequent end papers tanned, a typed letter to Dear Dorling has been pasted into the book prior to the half title page.
