Hard back binding in publisher's original duck-egg blue cloth covers, navy lettering and twin cross lines to the spine. 8vo 7½'' x 5¼'' 270 pp. Author of 101 girls' stories, chiefly with school settings. A holiday spent in the Austrian Tyrol at Pertisau-am-Achensee gave her the inspiration for the first location in the Chalet School series. Her teaching career spanned 36 years with her final post as Headmistress of a school in Hereford. She also wrote plays and numerous unpublished poems and was a keen musician. Cheap paper browning. Blue Cloth. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Good. Second Edition. 2nd issue of the 1935 original in 1948 with later DJ art featuring alpine peaks in the distance. Book in excellent tight bright unfaded condition, neat sunday school bookplate on flyleaf, no other markings. DJ quite worn with generla edge tears, especially at spine top. It was a bit flappy but we have repaired most of them with see-through archive grade acid-buffered repair tape. The tears have all come together so the appearance is now of only minor loss a few mm at a couple of the corners. Front panel displays OK, overall a bit loose-fitting, inner flap price-clipped. Size: 8vo.

Near Very Good condition book, in Very Good condition double-sided colour dust wrapper with two thin vertical crease lines to the spine and the front cover, the inner front flap is missing half of the text, spine colours not faded, without any tears or pieces of paper missing to the dust wrapper which is bright and sharp, the spine illustration shows a Matron holding up a Golliwogg, the front cover shows three girls outside a pink and yellow striped awning. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. List of twelve Chalet School Series titles to the rear of the dust wrapper starts with The School at the Chalet [1925], and finishes with Jo Returns to the Chalet School [1936].
