Livre Edition originale
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. First Edition. 24mo, 5 7/8" tall, [4] + iv + 234 pages. Professionally rebound in brown and green cloth with gilt spine titles and with original front flyleaf present. An original first edition copy of Victor Hugo's first book, published in 1822 in a purported printing of only 500 copies. This copy rebound in the twentieth century by the previous owner, with new cloth-covered boards and acid-free endpapers; lacking the original cover and endpapers. This handsome little volume, generally clean, neat and sturdy, shows slight shelf wear; the exterior with the rebinding is in near fine condition. The original interior paper is moderately yellowed and shows foxing primarily to the first and last pages and to the fore-edges; binding is tight but the attached front matter is separated from the interior binding. The sole remaining flyleaf has a short edge tear and bears the signature of a late 19th-century owner with the date Dec. 24, 1894.
