Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Fair. No Jacket. H. Willebeek Le Mair (illustrateur). 1st Edition. A delightfully illustrated book of songs. This is a well used book; there is evidence of notes having been written above the stave (C, G, etc) and then erased as the player gains in confidence. Possibly missing front free end paper. Onlaid illustration to front cover is still bright though boards are somewhat bumped and worn. About 1" detachment of front cover but this does not detract from its charm.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Fair. No Jacket. H. Willebeek Le Mair (illustrateur). 1st Edition. Two volumes: Our Old Nursery Rhymes (1911) and Little Songs of Long Ago (1912). Both in publisher's boards with onlaid oval pictures to front board. Our Old Nursery Rhymes: some damp staining towards the spine but still in good condition. Binding is a little loose and ffep & rfep have substantial foxing. Good internally, though page edges are a little thumbed and two have a 1.5cm tear at the fore edge. Little Songs of Long Ago: boards are in good order though the rear board has been bent at some point so the cloth is a little rippled and there is a crack in the rear end-paper. The binding is rather loose and there is no title page. A good deal less foxing to this volume, though some pages are loose and have some small tears (up to 4cm). Pages are, again, a little thumbed. Gift inscription dated 1918.

Ajouter au panierHardback. Etat : Good. Willebeek Le Mair (illustrateur). First Edition. OUR OLD NURSERY RHYMES Original Tunes Harmonised by Alfred Moffat Illustrated by H. Willebeek Le Mair. Augener Ltd, London 64pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy, as is usual with old landscape books, is loose a result of repeated folding and flattening of much loved music onto piano music racks. There is some pencil scribbling to both endpapers however the illustrations are unmarked. Henriette Willebeek Le Mair (1889-1966) may not be a household name, but her work has been seen by children around the world each night at bedtime when they read A Child's Garden of Verse or sang along to Our Old Nursery Rhymes. Henriette Willebeek Le Mair was born on April 23, 1889, in Rotterdam, Holland. Both her parents were creative people. Her father sketched the children while he told them bedtime stories. Her mother painted and wrote poetry. Running a nursery school out of her home gave her the opportunity to observe children at play. Henriette paid special attention to detail and painted using muted colours and decorative borders, very much in the style of Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane. She also painted and designed children's breakfast sets for the Gouda Pottery Company. Henriette illustrated a total of 14 books during her career. A critic from the noted art magazine The Studio wrote: "Since the days of Kate Greenaway I know of no one who has caught so well the spirit of childhood as Miss Willebeek Le Mair." This piece of music came from a substantial library amassed by Maude Beerbohm Tree and later added to by her daughters Viola (1884-1938 and Felicity (1894-1978) Helen Maud Holt (5 October 1863 ? 7 August 1937), professionally known as Mrs Beerbohm Tree and later Lady Tree, was an English actress. She was the wife of the actor Herbert Beerbohm Tree and the mother of Viola Tree, Felicity Tree and Iris Tree. After early stage appearances beginning in 1883, Mrs Tree married and established a theatrical partnership with her husband, in which they appeared in revivals of classic plays and productions of new plays, first at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket and then at Her Majesty's Theatre. Her performances in serious roles were well received, but she was most celebrated for her work in comedy, from Shakespeare to new works by Wilde and others. After her husband's death in 1917, Lady Tree continued to act steadily for almost two decades more until towards the end of her life, in plays and some films, making her last stage appearance in 1935. This is just one of a great many pieces of music and scores that I am selling from this collection on this site. Ref Y4.
