Hardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. First Edition. [32] p. 25.5 cm. Sound and square binding in illustrated, paper-covered boards. Ex-library copy with the usual marks: stamps, labels, card pocket. Masking tape remains on both boards where the jacket protector was taped down. Bottom edges worn through. Other than… library stamps on the preliminary pages, the inside pages are clean, bright and unmarked. Dustjacket has been protected in a mylar sleeve, now replaced with a fresh one. The spine has a label, small pull mark and shadow on the spine, which is also somewhat darkened. Rear panel a little rippled. A large price clip. A story of a cat named Old Perisher who damages a public garden and the battle that ensues with the Head Gardener. Illustrated with colour washed and black and white drawings by Edward Ardizzone. Ex-Library. Illustrated by Edward Ardizzone (illustrateur).

Illustrated throughout, in line and colour, by Ardizzone. On front end paper is the Surrealist bookplate of Andrew Murray. The book is in very good condition with some…light surface abrasions in top left corner of front cover; three small puncture holes (?) in back hinge of cover; inside there is a light soiling mark, otherwise very clean. The dust wrapper does have wear and creases; dusty with a water stain with some light foxing; plus three tears all about 2.5cm long, one of which has been repaired with masking tape on verso of wrapper. Loosely inserted is The Scottish Arts Council label for an exhibition, in which this copy was lent for.A Charming tale about the standoff between the head gardener of Plymbury Gardens and Old Perisher, the corporation cat. Size 26 x 19cm (10 x 7.5 inches) Provenance: Andrew Murray, Director of Mayor Gallery, Cork Street, London. The Mayor Gallery exhibited Ardizzone s work in the 1960 s. Andrew Murray lent his personal collection of books and prints etc. to the travelling exhibition by Middlesbrough Museum in 1982. Edward Ardizzone (illustrateur).
