[Film Memorabilia] Glossy catalogue for the Marilyn Monroe sale, 27-28th October 1999, held at Rockefeller Plaza sale room. Quarto (28 x 22cm), pp.416. Publisher's hardcovers in photographic dust-jacket, illustrated throughout. Some minor handling else fine. The personal effects of film icon Marilyn Monroe, including evening dresses, shoes, jewellery, photos, objets d'art, film scripts and books from her library. Of note to James Bond fans is her copy of Ian Fleming's From Russia With Love (lot 507); in a famous scene from the novel, the Bulgarian assassin Krilencu escapes from a hatch concealed in a billboard advertising Niagara (1953), starring Marilyn Monroe. The door is concealed behind Monroe's mouth. Both Fleming and Monroe were instrumental to the success of Playboy magazine in its first decade. This copy is from the comprehensive James Bond archive of Ian Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencilled ownership within).
