The boards are slightly rubbed and insignificantly spotted, lower corners are a little bumped. Contents are very fine. With the bookplate of Swedish diplomat Lennart Petri (1914-1996) on front paste-down. First edition of Szyk's Rubáiyát, and the only one with mounted plates; in later editions the illustrations were printed directly onto the pages. Signed by Szyk on front free endpaper.

Marron leather with gold stamped image of seated man to front panel, hibbed spine with gold titles, ribbon marker, unpaginated 24 pages, 8 full-colour reproductions of the minature paintings by Szyk inspired by Persian miniatures. The book was designed by Ernest Ingham of London. Included is the printed Publisher's note explaining that the book edges are not gilded as the pages are double sheets in the oriental style of bookmaking. Part of the gilding process is to sand each page edge before applying the golden finish, but in this case, the sanding would separate te double sheets. (2.0 JM LVR 206/b2 Size: 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall.
