Hardcover. Etat : Fine to Near Fine. First Edition. First Edtion, First Printing of a two-volume collection of art works that portray the United States Army and the service of the U.S. soldiers. Housed in a decorative slipcase and inscribed by former Army Chief of Staff, General Gordon R. Sullivan. Both volumes are 12" by 9-1/4" black cloth with dust jackets. Both volumes contain color reproductions of more than 100 art works drawn from the Army Art Collection. The slipcase is heavy cardboard covered with black cloth and with gilt titles and decorations. Compilation and publication of this set was executed during General Sullivan's tenure as Army Chief of Staff. General Sullivan's inscription is on the front endpaper on a 7" by 5-1/2" card with the Army Chief of Staff insignia. This card is pasted to the page and contains an a handwritten inscription that reads: "Sgt. X -- With respect and admiration -- thanks for your selfless service, Gordon R. Sullivan." The inscription is dated June 1995 which was the month in which General Sullivan's tenure as Army Chief of Staff ended. Both books show minimal sign of wear. Both dust jackets have light rubbing and the dust jacket of "Soldiers Serving the Nation" has a tear on the back cover. The slipcase has a bit of rubbing. Signed by Author(s).
