The book is tightly bound in fine green cloth with title and author in gilt on the spine. Soft touch of wear on the corners and spine caps. Name of previous owner on the ffe. Tiny bookstore sticker-"The Grolier Book Shop 6 Plympton Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts" also on the ffe. Otherwise, the pages are lightly age-toned, clean, smooth and unmarked. The original dust jacket is in good condition with 2" closed tear and a .25' chip along edges of the spine panel near the foot: 1 .5" and .25" tears near the top. The original price-$2.50 is on the front flap. Frost ,a four time Pulitzer Prize winning poet, dedicated this work to his grandchildren. Includes "The Directive" ,"One Step Backward" and " U.S. 1946 King's X" Please see all images.

Jacket somewhat tatty, with edge wear, chipping and loss to top and bottom of largely cream jacket and spine, top quarter of back jacket and back flap torn away, spine and extremities of jacket browned, corners rubbed with loss, folds rubbed, some slight spotting and browning to page fore edges, not price clipped (7s 6d), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg if much used copy for its age and poor wartime paper. 117pp. 'A Masque of Reason' purports to be Chapter 43 of the Book of Job, which only has 42 chapters. Thus American poet Robert Frost (1874-1963), has written a concluding chapter in the form of this piece. Robert Frost, like John Milton in 'Paradise Lost', seeks to justify God's ways to man. Very scarce in this first impression.
