One of the earliest attempts at classification based on subject matter, this volume is an extensive revision of an earlier work of the author published in 1920. With an extensive discussion of prints by various artists on the drama of the "Chushingura". Scarce. Arntzen/Rainwater N165. A sound and relatively markings-free ex-library copy, but with the corners bumped and frayed and the spine cloth torn.

A revision and enlargement of the author's 1920 book on the subject, which is, Stewart's Preface clarifies, 'virtually a new work, [.] constituting a catalogue raisonné of all the most notable prints of Ukiyoye produced during the polychrome period'. Scarce in the dustjacket.
