Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Mouradgea d'Ohsson was a high-ranking diplomat in the service of the Swedish court who eventually became an ambassador in his home city of Istanbul. He was the first European to gain such wide access to the Ottoman Empire's secrets and practices. Eventually, he culminated his efforts into a book, Tableau General de L'Empire Othoman, planning to write seven volumes but managing only two in his lifetime. His son later went on the write a third volume thirty years after the second volume was published. In the first volume, d'Ohsson focused his writing on the Religious practices, institutions, and other cultural particulars of the Ottoman Empire. The second volume concerned itself with a general history of the Empire. Later, after d'Ohsson's death, his son's volume concerned itself with the military and penal realities of the Ottomans.
