Dela resultou a publicação da presente obra e do seu conhecido diário The Voyage of the Beagle . 5 Volumes bound in 4. 31x25 cm. Fossil Mammalia: by Richard Owen, Esq. F.R.S. Professor of anatomy and physiology to the Royal College of Surgeons in London; corresponding member of the Institute of France, etc. etc. - Part II. Mammalia, by George R. Waterhouse, Esq. Curator of the Zoological Society of London, etc. etc. - Part III. Birds, by John Gould, Esq. F.L.S. - Part IV. Fish, by the Rev. Leonard Jenyns, M.A., F.L.S., &c. - Part V. Reptiles, by Thomas Bell, Esq., F.R.S. F.L.S., &c. Professor of zoology in King?s College. Work in five parts, initially published in nineteen fascicles between February 1838 and October 1843. It had the collaboration of several authors, under the direction of Charles Darwin, who in turn contributed specialised descriptions of the collections he had acquired during the journey of the H.M.S. Beagle and with notes throughout the volumes. The voyage took place from 27 December 1831 to 2 October 1836. It was the second scientific expedition of the H.M.S. Beagle under the command of Captain Robert FitzRoy, who invited the recently graduated Charles Darwin - aged 22 and keen to get to know the tropics before becoming a pastor. The expedition crossed the Atlantic Ocean towards the southern coasts of South America, where detailed hydrographic surveys were carried out, returning via Tahiti and Australia, completing a circumnavigation of the Earth. It was only supposed to last two years, but it took five. With this trip, Darwin established himself as a prestigious geologist and fossil collector. It resulted in the publication of this book and his well-known diary The Voyage of the Beagle . Both contributed greatly to his recognition within the scientific community. The experiments and discoveries he made during the expedition provided the basis for the ideas that led him to develop his theory of evolution by natural selection. Charles Robert Darwin (Shrewsbury, 1809 - Downe, 1882) was a naturalist, geologist and biologist, famous for his theory of evolution and the advances he made in the field of biological sciences. He studied in Shrewsbury, at the University of Edinburgh, and at the Christ?s College, in Cambridge. Obs.: This work weighs more than 5kg. It is subject to extra shipping costs. Language: Ingl.
