No Binding. Etat : As New. Given to MOMA, N.Y and PS.1 by the Norton Family to raise funds in 2009. New. First Edition. Oblong 8vo. One 3 3/4 x 5 x 4" wooden music box with the anagram "Silent" and "Listen" embossed on the recto and verso of its hinged lid, you see Silent when its playing, Listen when its closed unplayed. Each year Peter Norton commissioned an original a work of art to celebrate the holiday season. Tinsel is by Christian Marclay who was born in California, raised in Switzerland, and is based in New York City. Marclay made the fantastic video of a car screetching along with an electric guitar bumping and screetching along the highwayÖ also the LP recording the sounds on which were partially formed by ones waking over the records laid out on a gallery floor, etc. Fantastically inventive stuff. Maker of sculptures, installations, videos, and performances. "Tinsel" - a seamless melodic loop without beginning or end that incorporates the gradual slowing of the unwinding mechanism - to play with our expectations of the music box. The box was made in Sainte-Croix by Reuge, the last remaining manufacturer of music boxes in Switzerland". The music box with the fabled Reuge mechanism alone is pure childhood magic of the Swiss music box memory, let alone his radically disorienting piece of sound and silence, duration and repetition of the already recorded now played in real time (or represented real time?). Issued in 2005 hors commerce and never commercially available for sale outside MOMA. With the original letterpress colophon card laid in, as issued. £850 (Packed and couriered duty-free at our expense, worldwide, as it s so beautiful). With the original letterpress colophon card laid in, as issued. Music Box.
