Red Cloth. Etat : VERY GOOD ( AVERAGE). No Jacket. with about 100 illustrations by the author and from photographs and two maps one Coloured (illustrateur). This the Cass Facsimile of 1898 Edition. STAINED BOARDS but CONTENT NEAR FINE Ashanti at the period of this the author's journey was an independent state, with its king, its court, it's army, its various national institutions, shorn indeed, of much of its former glory, but still unchanged in all essentials, has since been absorbed into a British colony, its monarchy abolished, its army disbanded and its native institutions partially replaced by those of Europe. With the abolition of native rule that can be no doubt the opportunity of the scientific traveler or anthropologist to study this interesting and remarkable people is almost completely passed away. The appearance of this book is therefore justified by the extreme paucity of our information relating to Ashanti and by the certainty that this information will not be greatly augmented in the future. Many of the places mentioned have had no previous descriptions in English and in fact as a portion of this tract of country is now within the British territories and this fact invests it with certain interest for that portion of the public, not directly concerned in purely geographical matters. One of the few books, very few, on the Ashanti people prior to Colonial rule. 559 pp, with about 100 illustrations by the author, and from photographs, with two maps, both Coloured. A very nice NEAR FINE (NEAR NEW) COPY. This book will be POSTED AT OUR STANDARD RATES FULLY INSURED (UK) ONLY . Please email for further details Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾". Not Signed or Inscribed.
