Hardcover. Etat : VG- (No dj.). Mustard cloth, gilt lettering on spine, 379 pp., 160 tipped-in color and bw plates; weighs 6.75 lbs. "The study of the development of pottery in the Far East, a subject about which surprisingly little was known previous to the end of the nineteenth century, has made good progress in the last fifty years, thanks to the excavation of a number of old kiln sites and tombs and the investigations of European and American scholars, as well as the efforts of Chinese and Japanese research workers. But our knowledge is still only fragmentary, and much which remains obscure can be cleared up only by continuing patient research. Some things perhaps will never be known." (intro).
