A very good plus copy bound in finely textured paper-covered boards stamped brightly in gold on the spine. Clean and tight throughout with the exception of a little sticker residue at the top of the front endpaper. In a very good dust jacket with the original price of $16.95 at the top of the inside front flap; great photo on the rear panel of Satterthwait leaning against a tree. Light edge-rubbing and touch of wear at the corners. Light green line at the top edges. This is the first Joshua Croft mystery and the winner of the Shamus Award for Best First P.I. Novel in 1989. Walter Satterthwait (b. 1946) is an author of mysteries and historical fiction. A fan of mystery novels from a young age, he spent high school immersed in the works of Dashiell Hammett and Mickey Spillane. While working as a bartender in New York in the late 1970s, he wrote his first book: an adventure novel,Cocaine Blues(1979), about a drug dealer on the run from a pair of killers. After his second thriller,The Aegean Affair(1982), Satterthwait created his best-known character, Santa Fe private detective Joshua Croft. Beginning withWall of Glass(1988), Satterthwait wrote five Croft novels, concluding the series with 1996'sAccustomed to the Dark. In between Croft books, he wrote mysteries starring historical figures, includingMiss Lizzie(1989), a novel about Lizzie Borden, andWilde West(1991), a western mystery starring Oscar Wilde. His most recent novel isDead Horse(2007), an account of the mysterious death of Depression-era pulp writer Raoul Whitfield. A superb copy bound in finely textured paper-covered boards stamped brightly in gold on the spine. Very clean and tight throughout; virtually unread. In a near-fine dust jacket with the original price of $16.95 at the top of the inside front flap; great photo on the rear panel of Satterthwait leaning against a tree. His first detective novel. This copy has been inscribed by Satterthwait with the special quotation, perhaps from the novel, in his hand: "Does that mean you're a cyinc or simply a romantic?" "So far as I can tell, they're both the same thing." Walter Satterthwait 1/18/92" This is the first Joshua Croft mystery and the winner of the Shamus Award for Best First P.I. Novel in 1989. Hardcover. Etat : As New. Etat de la jaquette : As New. 1st Edition. The unique collection contains three first edition books and a typed letter SIGNED by the author regarding all three of them. The first book is the author's first book, Wall of Glass, in AN/AN unread condition. The second book is the author's second book, Miss Lizzie, in AN/AN unread condition. The third book is the author's third book, At Ease With the Dead, also in AN/AN condition. Included is a typed letter, dated 5/12/89 from the author to Lionel Anderson of Borealis Book Store with the return address of the author's apartment in Albuquerque, NM. In the letter, the author first refers to the worldwide paperback edition of Wall of Glass being release in August 1989, with a synopsis of the story line, and includes a copy of the cover the paperback will have. Second, he goes on to say that At Ease With The Dead will be released sometime the following year, but give a hint that the character Rita may recover from her handicap. Thirdly, the author goes on to discuss the story line from Miss Lizzie. Finally, he states that he is planning a long motorcycle trip in the summer of 1989 and has Ithica, NY ( the location of the bookstore) on his planned stops and mentions that he once lived there while his father was attending Cornell. This is a one of a kind look into the life of an author and what it takes to get their books onto bookshelves. Besides the narratives on his books yet to be published, the personal look into his life and what he thinks of his books ("pretty neat") is something not normally seen. An outstanding treasure.
