Hardcover. Etat : VG. Etat de la jaquette : Good. Early Edition. The 1952 Faber & Faber published edition of this classic Shell Guide. Bound in bright turquoise cloth boards with bright blue backstrip to highlight the title. Black and white endpapers of ferns. Beautifully designed and racy content. 64p, maps, well illustrated. Condition very good - with a booksellers label (technical Books Euston Road, London) on the rear endpaper. The green boards are finely mottled however - as issued? The clipped d/w has some ruffling at the top edge and a 14mm nick at the top edge as seen. A wisp of marginal foxing on the blank opposite the title page but still VG. See scans.

Second edition - no mention of this within the book but carries the later dustwrapper, being a b/w photo with green and blue title background, blue rear panel with list of Shell Guides ending with South-West Wales. Boards nice and bright, light rubbing to lower edges. Name in ink to verso of free front endpaper. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn with a few closed tears which have been repaired to verso with clear tape (no loss), top & tail of spine rubbbed with loss of surface paper and minor chipping. Slight musty odour present. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!.

4to., Second Edition, with title-vignette, numerous photographs (several full-page) in the text, 3 double-page coloured maps in the text and pictorial endpapers; original series binding of green cloth, backstrip blocked in blue and lettered in green, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter very faintly browned on (predominantly white) rear panel and with one tiny loss at upper edge of rear panel. The dustwrapper carries the first state price of 12s 6d rather than the later 15s. The first edition of Bone's contribution to this wonderful and much sought-after series was published in 1938. This thoroughly revised edition is scarce in its own right, especially in this condition. VERY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.
