No stated date but understood to be 1924 and presumed first edition. 115pp., 10 black and white plates, 2 pages of plans, and 8 illustrations within the text. William Robertson was a British author best known for his work 'The English Flower Garden'. He became the owner of a 16th century Manor House, and to his dismay found that the fireplaces, originally meant to burn wood, had been adapted to the use of coal. This book is an expanded version of his earlier work published in 1917 and entitled 'My Wood Fires And Their Story'. The full title of the book carries on to better describe the contents thus: Wood Fires for the Country House & Cottage, showing the beauty and use of the wood fire: of the way to secure good draught and combustion: of the native woods best for fuel: economy in working: of cookery by wood: central heating by wood: evil effects of coal smoke in the Home Counties. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards, bumping to the corners and light dents on the edges of the rear board. The spine is slightly faded with light soiling and wear to the titling and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with a few foxing marks to the first and last few pages, including the title-page. There is an embossed stamp reading 'With Mr Murray's Compliments' on the top edge of the title-page and the free endpapers are browned. There is no inscription.
