Livre Edition originale
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Written from Ghent in Flemish-speaking Belgium, Fredericq's volume of broadly South African historical and biographical essays was selected from his wide range of contributions to journals, annuals and publications between 1877 and 1913. Many of the essays are pro-Boer and several of them are on President Kruger, whose portrait provides the book's frontispiece, while others are on visits to Europe by, for example, the three most famous Boer generals, diplomats and senior officials of the Transvaal and Orange Free State republics. The damaged grey card wraps have been replaced by blue Skivertex-boards with the original front cover pasted to the upper board. New plain endpapers have been added. vii + 154 pp + the original grey back cover, on both sides of which is a price-list of Willems-Fonds publications issued since 1906. The text is complete and unmarked but lightly age-toned. The frontispiece is in very good condition. Some page corners are creased and the surviving back wrap is chipped at all three edges. Now rare in any condition, Fredericq's book provides a valuable European perspective on several decades of South African events.
