Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : Fine. The eighth volume published by The Mystery Library, a short-lived, 1970s project of the University Extension, University of California, San Diego. Buchan, a Scotish author and public servant who served the UK in a number of capacities during World War I and was governor-general of Canada when he died in 1940, originally published "The Thirty-nine Steps" in 1915. The book featured Richard Hannay, Scotish mining engineer raised in South Africa, racing against time and foreign agents plotting to destroy the British war effort in WWI. The novel became the basis for an Alfred Hitchcock film starring Richard Donat and Madeleine Carroll. This Mystery Library copy is a First Printing, First Edition Thus. About 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches, 207 pages including a frontispiece photo of Buchan, an introduction by writer Michael Gilbert, a bibliography and several appendices covering reviews of the novel and film, and still photos from the film, as well as b & w illustrations by Karl Nicholason. Quarter bound in black faux leather over brown paper-covered boards with a small, square graphic in the lower right corner of the front cover featuring a staircase and a man's face. Gold lettering on the spine. This copy is complete, clean and unmarked, with no visible or significant flaws. No dustjacket; it appears to have been issued without a dj. A very collectable copy from a regrettably limited Mystery Library series of about a dozen titles. N° de réf. du vendeur 005717
