Revue de presse :
Jeff Ruoff s study on Telluride concise and analytical presents an ideal model of what a festival book should be. It is of interest not only to academics, but also to students, journalists, managers, and curators both at film festivals and beyond. --Dina Iordanova, Professor of Global Cinema and Creative Cultures University of St Andrews, Scotland

This book is a total pleasure to explore. It represents a significant historical corrective to how we consider the form and function of film festivals: it focuses on a small American festival with monumental international impact on film culture. The writing reads as elegant literary journalism, the author is fluent in so many fields. The integration of nuanced historical analysis with founders and programmers interviews mobilises an exciting dialectic that expands how we can understand the intellectual and artistic dynamics of film exhibition. It is important to hear the voices of the founders, and read how they think through programming, guests, films, discussions, and audience engagements. --Patricia R. Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies Ithaca College, USA, and co-director, Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival
Présentation de l'éditeur :
The Telluride Film Festival ranks among the dozen most important and influential film festivals in the world. Despite its prominence, the festival has attracted scant scholarly attention. Through archival research, interviews, and attendance, this book analyses Telluride's origins and historical development. Structured as a selective case study, this slim volume highlights the festival as a multi-layered institution. It reveals how its practices have conceived of, and defined, film as an art form, the importance of business factors and sponsorship, the heightened nature of its exhibition practices, and changing features of the global festival landscape. Jeffrey Ruoff is a documentary filmmaker and film historian at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, USA. He directed Still Moving: Pilobolus at Forty (2012) and edited the anthology Coming Soon to a Festival Near You: Programming Film Festivals (2012). In addition to making films and publishing scholarly articles and books, Ruoff has a public voice in newspapers and magazines.
