Livre Edition originale
Cloth. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Richard Le Sueur (illustrateur). First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. A Natural History of Jersey. Price clipped to D/J. Jersey, like all small islands, has a fascinating natural history. The few miles of sea that separate it from the French coast and the other Channel Islands are sufficiant to have allowed local forms and variants of several species to have evolved in isolation from other breeding populations. Despite intensive farming for many generations, the island still provides a wide variety of habitats for wild life. A corresspondingly wide range of plants, animals, and birds flourishes, in spite of the holiday visitors (nearly a million each year), to many of whom the stonishing richness of Jersey's wild life is not the least of the island's attractions. This is the first book ever written embracing all major aspects of Jersey's natural history. It is the result of more that twenty-five years' study and a substantial amount of field-work, including much original research into the present-day distribution of many creatures. Records for the past eight centuries have been searched to glean evidence of past wild populations and of change. This historical perspective has been woven into the fabric of the book to provide a highly readable and informative account ogf the island's natural history which will be warmly welcomed in jersey and beyond. Illustrations. 221 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
