Cloth. Etat : Fine. None (illustrateur). First edition. A very smart first edition of Saint-Exupéry's two novels, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. A first edition of the English translation of this work, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Bookplate to the front paste down, dated 1972. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944) was a French writer, poet, aristocrat, journalist and pioneering aviator. He became a laureate of several of France's highest literary awards, and is best remembered for his novella The Little Prince and for his lyrical aviation writings. Much of Saint-Exupéry's work was inspired by his experiences as a pilot. Courrier sud, translated as Southern Mail, was his first novel, based on his pioneering flights for the French airmail service. Vol de Nuit, translated as Night Flight, was his second novel and an international bestseller. This novel is set in Argentina at the outset of commercial aviation, and its major theme is that of sacrificing personal considerations for a vital cause, which resonated with audiences of the 1930s and 1940s. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition with just a small stain to the upper extremity to the rear board. A little bumping and edgewear to the front and rear of the wrap and a small scattering of tiny marks to the front of the wrap. The spine is slightly sunned, with a couple of small stains, and the head of the spine has been reinforced with tape to the inside of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Fine. book.
