Description du livre Random House, 1947. Hardcover. État : Very Good. No Jacket. Book Club (BCE/BOMC).. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Type: Hardback Hardcover Book Club Edition in Very Good Condition. No Jacket. Under her pen name Isak Dinesen, Blixen published seversl collections of modern Gothiic tales. "The Angelic Avengers" is her only full-length novel of horror, a melodramatic thriller like early Victorian novels. Reddish-brown cloth w/ black title panel gilt titled and decorated on spine and front panel w/gilt figure of a young lady's head/shoulder portrait, within a black border. Spine slightly sunned. Clean & unmarked, tight & solid. Front lower corner slightly bumped. Rough cut on fore edge and bottom edge. Interior clean, no marks, no tears. No significant defects, just a very nice older book. Published in Denmark in 1944-superlatively fine literary quality. The story veils something far more serious. One critic commented on "the consummate skill of the author in writing one thing brilliantly and meaning another". Consider the year 1944 in Denmark and what this critic may have meant and how important it probably was to hide any true meaning. 304 pages. 8.4 x 5.75 inches. 1947, Random House, USA. Description du livre Random House; (1947), NY, 1947. Hard Cover. First Edition. First edition of this novel by the author better known as Isak Dinesen. Affixed to the front endpaper is a short newspaper review from 1947 which noted the similarity to the prose style of Dinesen. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. The cloth is slightly discolored in spots, and there is some offsetting (apparently from glue) on the endpapers. The jacket has two pulls on the front flap which have affected part of the wording there, and there is edgewear and rubbing generally. N° de réf. du libraire 001245

Description du livre Ace Books, Inc. [1963]., New York, 1963. Small octavo, pictorial wrappers. First paperback edition. Ace Book K-167. Under her pen name Isak Dinesen, Blixen published several collections of highly regarded modern Gothic tales. THE ANGELIC AVENGERS is her only full-length novel of horror, a melodramatic thriller modeled on early Victorian novels. "A curious book ." - Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 21. Radcliffe, Gothic Novels of the Twentieth Century 183. Sullivan (ed), The Penguin Encyclopedia of Horror and the Supernatural, p. 128. Bleiler (1978), p. 5. Not in Reginald (1979; 1992).
