Description du livre E. Weyhe, New York City, 1931. Hardcover. 2 vols. Gray paper boards, maroon cloth spines with black title blocks. Volume 1 = 146 pages, 3 color and 4 bw plates. Volume 2 = unpaginated and contains 245 bw plates on pp. The complete two-volume set of essays and supporting illustrations as assembled by American art critic and collector Duncan Phillips (1886-1966). Volume 1 consists of 11 essays, exhibition notes, and colums on specific artists. Many of these are on European art-related topics, but those of direct American interest would include writings on Karl Knaths, John Marin, Augustus Vincent Tack, Harold Weston, and American Old Masters. Volume 2 contains 245 bw plates, with an artist index at the front that reflects the strong American representation in this collection. The set constitutes No. 6 in the Phillips Publications series.
