Add.Title Brasilíufararnir. Very Good in one-half leather and pebbled black cloth The author was "one of those few Western Icelandic writers who gained popularity on both sides of the Atlantic" (Neijmann, The Icelandic Voice, , p. 146). He emigrated from Iceland to Nova Scotia at age nine. He became a school teacher in western Canada in 1889; after his retirement, he lived at Elfros, Saskatchewan (Kirkconnell, Canadian overtones). His social criticisms were based clearly on the immigrant experience, according to Neijmann. She states also that, "the more important aspect of [the author's] fictional tales . . . is that he creates a folklore, a body of legends for the West Icelanders . . .". This novel on travels to Brazil is referenced in Hjartar, p. 61. Peel (3rd Ed.) #3131. N° de réf. du libraire 29946
