A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

The emancipationist Cassius M. Clay has long been one of Kentucky's most controversial and misunderstood figures. This new biography examines his important, though undervalued, place in history from the anti-slavery movement to his role in Lincoln's minister to Russia during the Civil War. Along the way the many fights, romantic entanglements, and political battes of Clay's life are explored. The author, a former guide at Clay's mansion, White Hall, unearthed long forgotten documents such as newspaper and magazine articles, interviews with Clay, and family letters. As a result this book contains much information found in no other Clay biography and many long-standing myths are debunked. In addition to the biography of Clay, the book contains a room-by-room tour of White Hall, several informative appendices, and a collection of ghost stories concerning Clay's mansion, making it both ideal for history buffs and the public at large.

About the Author:

Keven McQueen is an instructor in the Department of English at Eastern Kentucky University. He worked several seasons as a tour guide at Cassius Clay's mansion, White Hall. McQueen is currently working on several books and is planning to build a Utopian city shaped like a papaya.

Description de la librairie

Located in the heart of historic downtown Springfield, Prairie Archives has been serving Central Illinois since 1973. We have occupied three locations since our founding and our current store has been located at 522 E. Adams since 1992. We have approximately 250,000 books in stock, documents, manuscript material, posters, prints, comics, collectibles, magazines, political buttons, postcards and lots more! If you don't see a title you're looking for, please feel free to inquire; only a small part of our stock is catalogued. Our store hours are 10-5 Central time Monday through Saturday. We also carry a line of t-shirts, including the ever-popular "Abraham Lincoln: They'd have to shoot me to get me back to Springfield" and "Frank Lloyd Wright: I can design a building that would look good even in Springfield". Please inquire about our other designs, sizes and prices. And of course, we can't leave without mentioning Hannah, our golden retriever. She has run things here since she was a puppy [October, 1994]; she brings more business to the shop than anyone else. Always friendly, cheerful, and affectionate (especially when someone has food!) She has recently been joined by Ruby, a young and energetic black lab. Hannah and Ruby say "Come See Us!"
