Description :

Condition: Fair; wear along edges of spine with a three-inch closed break in the cloth near bottoms (held by a few threads and bottom cloth strip); pages generally very good, good rag paper. Last pages of First section show some wear near the gutter, probably before it was bound in. Hardcover bound in dark green pebbled cloth, 214 mm x 279 mm tall; 144 + 48 pages numbered (192 pp). 79 songs from the Christy Minstrels repertoire, with full verses and music. The first 144 pages are presumably the First Series, divided into three 48-page "Books", numbered consecutively through the three, and there is a "Second Series" with an additional 44 pages and 19 songs . The title page of the First Series may (or may not) be missing; the first leaf bound in is a contemporary hand-written Table of Contents of the first three books. The first numbered page of the First Book has somewhat of a title introduction; the second and third Books have simply an extra Title line at the top of the page; and the Second Series has a full title page with a table of contents on the reverse. Titles of the first three books are: (1) A Selection of popular songs sung by the Christy's Minstrels . First Book. Arranged by G. F. Harris.; (2) Christy's Minstrels Popular Songs / Second Book; (3) Christy's Minstrels Popular Songs / Third Book. The Second Series title page reads: The Only Authorised Repertoire of the St. James's Hall Veritable and Legitimate Christy Minstrels, containing their Favourite Songs and Ballads. Second Series. London: Hopwood and Crew, 42, New Bond Street, W. The table of contents on the back of the Second Series title page would indicate that it is complete. Uncommon. . N° de réf. du libraire 131506
