Description :

Octavo, pp. [1-8] 9-255 [256: blank], original red cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black, top edge stained yellow green, fore and bottom edges rough trimmed. First edition. Novelization of the 1940 film starring Albert Dekker as the ruthless mad scientist in the Peruvian jungle who uses radioactivity to miniaturize living things, including human beings who are reduced to one fifth of their natural size. The novel, often attributed to, but not by, Henry Kuttner, was perhaps written by Alexander Samalman. Kuttner did write a shorter magazine version from the film script which was published in THRILLING WONDER STORIES, June 1940. Reginald 08491. Private owner's name stamped on front free endpaper. Mild bruise to lower spine end, a fine copy in fine dust jacket with light rubbing at upper spine fold. A stunning copy. By far the best copy we have seen. (#148901). N° de réf. du libraire

Locke [A Spectrum of Fantasy, page 89 "Novelisation of a mad-scientist film in which people are reduced to one fifth of their usual size. Note: This book is frequently blamed on Henry Kuttner, but I have seen no conclusive evidence to support that supposition. Kuttner did write a novelette version of the film for one of the pulp magazines at about the same time, which presumably accounts for his being blamed for the book as well, in spite of what I gather is strong stylistic evidence to the contrary"].
